Professional Overview

Dr. Rekha V. Kumar is Senior Consultant and Emeritus Professor in the Department of Histopathology at Sri Shankara Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Bengaluru. With nearly 40 years of experience in oncopathology, she has previously served as Professor and Head of Pathology at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, where she led diagnostic units including histopathology, cytopathology, haematology, and cytogenetics. She earned her MBBS from CMC Vellore and MD in Pathology from Bangalore University.

A recipient of the UICC fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, she has taught MD, DNB, and fellowship students, guided PhD scholars under RGUHS, and published over 130 peer-reviewed papers. Her diagnostic focus spans head and neck, bone and soft tissue, breast, gynecologic, and gastrointestinal cancers. She is actively involved in molecular pathology and envisions wider integration of AI-driven diagnostics. She continues to play a central role in oncopathology education, research, and precision cancer diagnostics.
