SSCHRC is dedicated to a patient-focused approach, combining personalised cancer treatment with leading-edge research to provide comprehensive care for gastrointestinal cancers. Our integrated practice brings together a multispecialty cancer care team of world-renowned experts, including medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, transplant surgeons, and gastroenterologists. The Gastrointestinal Cancer Program has set a strategic agenda to advance the understanding of these cancers and translate research findings into best clinical practice.
Our current research and future directions include:
Developing novel treatments, such as non-invasive approaches for the early detection of gastrointestinal malignancies.
Identifying and evaluating novel biomarkers to help with prognostic stratification and predicting therapeutic outcomes.
Developing individualised therapeutic approaches using novel molecularly targeted and immunotherapeutic strategies.
Maintaining a robust cancer registry, which facilitates the collection of data on cancer diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes to accelerate discoveries and improve patient care.
SSCHRC's model of care ensures high-quality, compassionate care through a team-based approach and deep experience in preventing, diagnosing, and treating gastrointestinal cancers. We leverage our expertise to develop and apply cutting-edge science and a collaborative, patient-focused research approach.
SSCHRC offers one of the most comprehensive treatment options for GI cancer patients. The programme focuses on individualised treatment strategies aimed at optimising innovation in care and improving outcomes.
Our treatment capabilities cover a wide range of gastrointestinal cancers, including:
We are a pioneer in liver transplantation as a treatment option for early stage hilar cholangiocarcinoma and offer comprehensive treatment options such as surgery, systemic therapy and photodynamic therapy.
We have a specialised Inherited Cancers Clinic that provides comprehensive surveillance and early detection strategies. Treatment includes individualised surgical options such as robotic surgery, single incision laparoscopic surgery, transanal techniques (TEMS, TAMIS, TA), sacral nerve neuromodulation, and an active HIPEC programme. We are also focused on innovative research initiatives with molecularly selected drug platforms for advanced colorectal cancer (COLOMATE).
Treatment options include Peptide receptor radionuclide radiotherapy (Lutathera) and liver transplantation for neuroendocrine cancer liver metastases.
We deliver comprehensive liver cancer treatment programmes, including locoregional approaches for early stage disease, with options varying from TACE, segmental radioembolisation, TARE, and more.
SSCHRC experts offer total neoadjuvant therapy individualised in a selective approach which can extend life for advanced non-metastatic pancreatic cancer. We are a leading referral centre for patients with early stage and advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.
We offer treatment options with individualised strategies, including access to research focused on molecularly targeted and immunotherapy.
Treatment options include endoscopic mucosal resection for very early stage lesions and minimally invasive surgery for early stage disease. Research initiatives are also focused on immunotherapy approaches for all stages of this disease.
